In the 1973 Yom Kippur War, the Egyptian Army made a successful crossing of the Suez Canal and advanced almost unopposed deep into the Sinai Peninsula. Israeli forces were thrown back on their heels – but they stiffened their resolve and launched a counter-offensive that would drive back the Egyptians.
Under the command of Ariel Sharon, the Israelis exploited a seam between two Egyptian armies. In one of the most stunning military victories in history, the Egyptian forces were surrounded.
One of the young soldiers serving under Sharon’s command was Adam Milstein. He was just 19 years old but had done his part to protect the country he loved.
Adam Milstein was born in Haifa in 1952. His parents immigrated to Israel shortly after the country was founded in 1948. His mother hailed from Mexico and his father was a native of Argentina. The call of the Jewish nation brought then home. After the war, Adam entered study at the Israel Institute of Technology where he earned is bachelor’s degree in business and finance. He then followed his father into the real estate business. In 1974 Adam married Gila Elgrably in Haifa. The couple moved to the United States in 1981 to pursue opportunity.
While in the U.S., Adam furthered his education, earning a master’s degree in business from the University of Southern California. He then launched himself fully into the world of real estate. Today Adam Milstein is a managing partner with a major real estate operator based in Encino, California – Hager Pacific Properties, a company with assets of some $2 billion.
Adam Milstein is also a founder of the largest and fastest growing Jewish advocacy group in the United States, the Israeli-American Council, with more than 250,000 members to date. Adam Milstein has also given back much to his fellow American and the people of Israel through the foundation he established with his wife, the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation. This organization sponsors young people to assist them with education and professional careers.
From Israel to America, Adam Milstein has made a significant mark in the modern history of his native Israel and his adopted country, the United States.
